CHICAGO (STMW) -- A passenger died at a hospital after becoming ill on a flight, prompting an emergency landing at O'Hare International Airport Wednesday afternoon.
American Airlines Flight 12 from Los Angeles was bound for New York when a 69-year-old man on the flight became ill about 4:30 p.m., authorities said.
The pilot landed the plane at O'Hare about 4:45 p.m. so the man could receive emergency medical attention, American Airlines spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan said.
Fernando Acosta, of Ecuador, was taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:08 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
