Shootings Leave A Dozen Wounded In 9 Hours
CHICAGO (CBS) -- At least a dozen people were wounded in apparently unrelated shootings in a period of about 9 hours, on the city's South, Southwest and West sides.
No one was killed in any of the incidents.
The first incident happened around 4:20 p.m. Monday, in the 7000 block of South Justine Street in the Englewood neighborhood, after red Jeep or sport-utility vehicle rammed another vehicle. The suspects then pulled alongside the damaged vehicle and shot the 25-year-old driver in the back, police said. He was taken in stable condition to Stroger Hospital of Cook County.
Just before 5:30 p.m., an 18-year-old woman walking in the 5900 block of South Michigan Avenue, in the Washington Park neighborhood, was shot in the lower leg and taken in good condition to Mercy Hospital, police said.
About 5:55 p.m., a gunman approached an 18-year-old man on a bicycle in the 6500 block of South Fairfield Avenue in the Marquette Park neighborhood, and shot him in the back, police said. He was taken in stable condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Just before 7 p.m., a 14-year-old boy standing in a doorway in the 700 block of North Harding Avenue, in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, heard a gunshot and was shot in the upper left thigh, police said. He was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
About 7:30 p.m., somebody in a red Ford vehicle shot two men standing on the sidewalk in the 0-99 block of West 103rd Street in the Roseland neighborhood, police News Affairs Officer Phillip Armstrong said.
A 22-year-old man was shot in the right buttock and a 24-year-old man was shot in the right thigh, Armstrong said. Both men were taken in stable condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
About 9:30 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in the lower left leg while walking down the street near 1520 E. 67th St., in the Woodlawn neighborhood, a Grand Crossing District lieutenant said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.
The shootings continued about 10:50 p.m. when a man, 24, was seriously injured in a shooting at 6158 S. King Dr. in the West Woodlawn neighborhood, police said. He suffered gunshot wounds to the buttocks and left thigh and was taken to Northwestern Memorial hospital in serious condition.
About a minute later, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were shot while working on a car in the 8100 block of South Kenneth Avenue in the Ashburn neighborhood, police said. Both were shot in the legs and listed in good condition at Christ Hospital early Tuesday. Police are looking for a silver or gray 4-door sedan that a witness saw speeding away from the area after the shooting.
At 12:53 a.m., a man, 19, and a woman, 22, were shot in the 6100 block of South Paulina Street in the West Englewood neighborhood, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. Both were shot in the shoulder and taken to Christ Hospital in good condition.
Chicago Police detectives are investigating the shootings.
