Shooter among 2 dead, 1 wounded inside Northwest Indiana home
PORTAGE, Ind. (CBS) — Two people were killed and one other was wounded in an apparent murder-suicide inside a home in Portage, Indiana, Friday evening.
Portage police said around 7:40 p.m., officers responded to the home in the 6300 block of Monument Avenue for a 911 call regarding a domestic disturbance. The caller said her father was intoxicated and throwing items inside the home, then told dispatchers her father was armed with a gun.
Operators could hear the man saying everyone in the home was going to die and then the sound of gunfire. As officers were arriving on the scene, they also heard gunshots from inside the home.
Officers forced their way inside the home and found 45-year-old Charles Manville dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. They also found his wife, 46-year-old Brandy Manville, dead of apparent gunshot wounds. A 21-year-old woman also had been shot but survived. She was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to a trauma center.
Officers did not discharge their weapons during the incident.
The surviving victim has not yet been able to provide investigators with a statement about the shooting, and the motive remained unknown as of Saturday evening.
Police said Brandy Manville was an administrative assistant in the main office of Portage High School.
According to court records, Brandy Manville filed for divorce in July and sought a restraining order against Charles Manville.
The shooting remained under investigation Saturday evening.
