Sheriff's Deputy Injured In Crash On Reagan Memorial Tollway
LISLE, Ill. (STMW) -- A DuPage County Sheriff's deputy was injured Sunday morning when a woman suspected of driving drunk stuck his police car while he was changing a tire on the shoulder of the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88).
The crash happed at 4:57 a.m. on the westbound Regan Memorial Tollway (I-88), according to Illinois Tollway District Master Sergeant Carlita Joe.
A DuPage County Sheriff's deputy was changing a tire on the passenger side of his squad car on the right shoulder of I-88 when a vehicle struck the squad car, according to the master sergeant.
The sheriff's deputy suffered an injury to his ankle, but did not sustain any life-threatening injuries, the master sergeant said. The deputy was on the side of the vehicle away from traffic at the time of the crash.
Both the squad car and the vehicle driven by the woman sustained significant damage, Joe said.
The woman driving the vehicle is suspected of driving on under the influence and charges are expected, according to Joe.
