Shelia Simon Won't Seek Another Term As Lt. Governor
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Sheila Simon said Wednesday that she won't seek another term as lieutenant governor.
Simon Won't Seek Re-Election
Simon said she told Gov. Pat Quinn in December that she won't seek re-election for the position in 2014.
Simon said in a statement that she will explore "other opportunities".
She did not provide specifics other than to say, "I want to serve the people of Illinois in a role where I can have an even greater impact."
The Carbondale Democrat, and daughter of the late U.S. Sen. Paul Simon, was first elected to the office in 2010.
Simon has previously served an an assistant state's attorney in Jackson County.
