SWAT Team Sent Out For Dog Fighting On Sheffield Avenue

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two men were arrested on warrants for dog fighting in the Lincoln Park neighborhood Wednesday.

A Gang Unit team and a SWAT team were sent to two homes near Sheffield and Armitage avenues, based on allegations of animal cruelty, abuse and neglect.

WBBM Newsradio's Steve Miller reports police said they had received numerous complaints about the Sheffield Avenue home related to narcotics and animal abuse.

Officers conducted surveillance and found probable cause to execute two search warrants.

One of the busts was at a home at 1850 N. Sheffield Ave., the other at an unspecified address on Maud Avenue, a block-long street that runs parallel to Clybourn Avenue.

A police SWAT team was called out to execute the warrants.

The Chicago Department of Animal Care and Control rescued several dogs. Witnesses said four pit bulls were taken from the scene.

The Chicago Department of Buildings was also sent to the scene to check out violations.
