CHICAGO (CBS) -- Shedd Aquarium staffers traded water for sand as they tromped the low dune at 63rd street beach trying to get things back the way they once were, reports WBBM's John Cody.

Shedd conservation staffer Reid Bogert led the team of eight trying to restore natural dune vegetation by eliminating a European invasive
"The cheat grass has a funny flower on it that sort of has forks coming off the tip, little blades, very narrow blades and that is how we would identify them pretty quickly," said Bogert.
In just two hours, Bogert's Shedd Aquarium team filled up 10 big bags with cheat grass, promising to return until all that remains are native plants, already blooming yellow orange and purple in the dunes at Chicago's 63rd Street Beach.
