Sewer Water Leaks Into West Side Police Station

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A sewer problem in the West Side's Harrison District police station caused a messy situation early Thursday.

Early Thursday, about an half of inch of sewer water had flooded almost the entire first floor of the station, 3151 W. Harrison St., according to Harrison District police Lt. John Andrews.

"It was all over the floor in the watch commander's office,'' said Andrews, who said it became a hazardous materials incident which prompted him to send an email to all of his superiors.

"This was a significant health and safely problem for our people,'' he said.

It did not affect the prisoner's lockup, though.

"An army'' of plumbers were sent out after a delay and by Saturday morning, it had been cleaned up, according to Andrews.

"Today, it smells like roses,'' Andrews said.
