Severe Weather In Dallas Prompts American Airlines To Cancel Flights At O'Hare
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Severe weather that hit the Dallas Fort Worth airport Tuesday is having a ripple effect at O'Hare, after American Airlines stopped operations at its Texas hub.
American Airlines spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan said over 100 planes will need to be inspected for hail damage in Dallas, and it takes two to three hours to inspect each aircraft. All American flights this afternoon and evening between O'Hare to Dallas have been canceled.
A total of 234 American and American Eagle departures have been canceled at DFW and there will be no more inbound American fights in DFW airport today.
The airline hopes to get planes flying tomorrow, Fagan said.
Tornadoes tore through the Dallas area on Tuesday, tearing roofs off homes, tossing trucks into the air and leaving flattened tractor trailers strewn along highways and parking lots.
There were no reports of tornadoes at the airport, and there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage there.
