Severe Thunderstorm, 60 MPH Winds Headed To West, Northwest 'Burbs
CHICAGO (STMW) - A thunderstorm bringing winds up to 60 miles per hour will blow through parts of the northwest and west suburban Chicago area Tuesday night.
The severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 8 p.m. and covers northwestern Cook County, northern DuPage County, northern Kane County and southeastern McHenry County, according to the national Weather Service.
The line of showers could produce heavy rain and winds more than 60 miles per hour, forecasters warn.
Elgin, East Dundee and Carpentersville will see the storm first before it moves on to Streamwood, Hoffman Estates and Bartlett, then to Hanover Park and Schaumburg, according to the weather service. Medinah, Roselle, Carole Stream, Rolling Meadows, Itasca and Wood Dale also lie in the storm's path.
Residents are warned to stay inside and seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of homes and businesses.
