UPDATE: Tornado, Damage Reported In Western Illinois
(CBS) -- Severe damage from a tornado has been reported in far Western Illinois Thursday evening.
Monmouth, Ill. police confirm to WBBM there was a tornado touchdown in that area, about 200 miles southwest of Chicago.
Emergency officials reported an extra-alarm response for the Warren County community of Cameron. That area had been under a tornado warning Thursday evening.
Storm chaser Corey Marshall says the tornado hit around 7:20 p.m.
"It broke out the back of my windshield," he tells WBBM. "It went on towards Cameron, Illinois, and just completely destroyed that town."
A grain silo reportedly fell over BNSF Railroad tracks.
Gov. Bruce Rauner said state resources were mobilized to assess damage and assist residents.
"I activated the State Emergency Operations Center to ensure we're ready to act quickly if any local responders need our assistance," he said in a news release. "Illinois State Police is already at the scene and we have staff from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency enroute to the area to support local response efforts."
