Severe Cold Forces Animals Indoors At Brookfield Zoo
(CBS) -- Brookfield Zoo was closed today because of the frigid temperatures, reports WBBM's Bernie Tafoya.
Brookfield Zoo's Bill Zeigler says the zoo would have been open today were it not for the dangerous wind chill, so as a result only the polar bears and the American bison have been enjoying this weather. The rest of the animals have been inside.

"Even the snow leopards we brought in because of the wind chill factors with this and of course our other concern was four our staff so that people weren't outside trying to take care of exhibits and things in -40 wind chill factors," said Zeigler.
The zoo will reopen on Tuesday. Other animals such as Siberian tigers, now known as Amur tigers, and Bactrian camels could easily handle zero degrees with little wind chill.
