Several East Lakeview Businesses To Close Next Week For Water Line Work
CHICAGO (CBS) -- More than two dozen restaurants and bars in East Lakeview will be affected by Water Department work next week, and some are expecting to lose a day of business.
Maria Mavraganes' family has owned Stella's Diner at Broadway and Barry since 1962.
She just found out that Water Department work on Broadway next week means she'll have to close the diner for at least a day, but at first she said she wasn't concerned.
"We have what's called interruption-of-business insurance," she said.

However, a few minutes later, after she talked to her insurance company, she had reason to be worried.
"The insurance company said that because it's a utilities work project, it's not considered business interruption. So they won't cover (it)," she said.
So now she's looking at at least a day's loss.
"It's not so much what I lose. I mean, yeah, I'm going to lose a lot. Everybody that works here loses a day's wage," she said.
The Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce said a new water line is going in because a new Mariano's is coming to the neighborhood this summer.
