Eight Rescued After Boat Hits Breakwall Near Navy Pier
CHICAGO (STMW) - Eight men were rescued Saturday evening after the boat they were on hit a Lake Michigan breakwall near Navy Pier and capsized.
The incident happened near the east end of Navy Pier near the lighthouse, according to Chicago Fire Department Media Affairs.
Police and fire crews first responded shortly before 5 p.m.
The boat the men were on apparently hit a Lake Michigan breakwall, according to unconfirmed dispatch reports.
There were eight men rescued by fire department personnel, according to Fire Media Affairs.
The men on the boat were assisted by the police Marine Unit after their boat capsized, according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala, who was citing preliminary reports.
The eight men were taken to shore by about 5:40 p.m.
One of them was put on a backboard, and all of them were taken to the west end of Navy Pier to be checked out by paramedics, according to dispatch reports.
Two 30-year-old men were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to Fire Media Affairs. One was in fair to serious condition and the other was in good condition, Fire Media said.
