Seniors, Disabled Can Apply For Discounts On Taxi Rides In Des Plaines
DES PLAINES, Ill. (CBS) -- The City of Des Plaines wants to make it easier for seniors and people with disabilities to get around.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, the new Subsidized Taxicab Voucher Program will provide discounted transportation to eligible residents of the City of Des Plaines who are either 65 or older or have a disability.
The program will provide a discount of $3.
The Daily Herald reports residents must provide proof of residency, as well as age/and or disability. Accepted documents include a current driver's license or state ID, a water bill, a birth certificate, a passport, a current Social Security disability statement, or a State of Illinois placard application with a doctor's signature.
Applications will be taken at the Des Plaines Health and Human Services department from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at City Hall, at 1420 Miner St.; and at the Frisbie Senior Center, 52 E. Northwest Highway, from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, the Daily Herald reported.
A maximum of 30 vouchers will be issued at one time, and additional vouchers will not be issued until the first ones are used. Vouchers must be used for trips within the City of Des Plaines, with a maximum of one ticket per ride, and no change for rides under $3, the Daily Herald reported.
Also, vouchers are non-transferable from person to person, the newspaper reported.
