Semi Rollover Shuts Down Stevenson Expressway
BURR RIDGE, Ill. (CBS) -- An overturned semi-trailer truck tied up the inbound Stevenson Expressway during the morning rush hour Friday.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports the semi overturned at on the southbound ramp at County Line Road before 8 a.m.
The crash blocked all inbound lanes for a period of time.
By early in the 9 a.m. hour, the truck had been dragged out of the way and all lanes were open.
But a gaper's block remained on the outbound Stevenson for sometime afterward, as motorists eyed the wreckage.
The truck was hauling locomotive parts and flipped before sliding across three lanes of traffic on the Stevenson Expy. near Burr Ridge.
Two cars trying to avoid the truck collided, sending four people to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Illinois State Police.
"The only thing blocked now is the ramp from County Line Road southbound to I-55 northbound,'' ISP Elgin District Sgt. Brent Hop said at 9:40 a.m.
The crash happened at 7:45 a.m. on that ramp.
The ramp will be closed for several hours as crews inspect the truck and upright it.
Nothing the truck was hauling spilled out into the road and its driver was not hurt, but is expected to be cited, Hop said.
