Semi Flips Over, Leaving Cows On Highway

MARKHAM (STMW) -- A south suburban interstate ramp remains closed Sunday afternoon more than five hours after semi truck hauling cattle overturned -- killing some of the livestock and leaving others to roam the road.
A semi truck hauling cattle crashed and flipped about 11:15 a.m. on an eastbound ramp from Interstate 80 to northbound Tri-State Tollway (I-294), Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Richardo Sandoval said.
State Police said some of the cattle were killed when they fell off the ramp after the crash. Others were roaming the ramp.
"We do have some livestock that perished, and some are still alive in the trailer," Sandoval said. "They [State Police] are trying to round up the livestock."
State Police remained on the scene, and the ramp remained closed, at 4:45 p.m., State Police said. Illinois State Police Tollway District are assisting, Sandoval said.
There was no indication the trucker was injured, and it was not immediately known why the crash happened.
