Roadway Cleared After Semi Flips On Ramp From Ike To Ryan
Updated 2:17 p.m. 4/17/11
CHICAGO (STMW) - All lanes have been re-opened and the roadway cleared after a semi truck hauling steel coils overturned and spilled coils on the inbound Eisenhower (I-290) ramp to the outbound Dan Ryan (I-90/94) Sunday morning.
At 9:05 a.m. a semi flipped on a ramp from the eastbound Ike to the southbound Ryan, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago Master Sgt. Mike Witt.
But about 12:30 p.m. all roadways were re-opened, and the rig was unrighted and moved off the scene, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Chris Asmar.
"They got everything cleaned up,'' Asmar said. No lanes were closed as of 1:20 p.m.
The trucker was not hurt, Witt said.
Some of the steel coils the semi was carrying did fall out initially, causing one of two lanes on the ramp to close.
During the process of uprighting the rig, Witt said they expected the pressure would likely cause more steel coils to pop out from the truck and onto another ramp area that is less heavily traveled, the ramp from westbound Congress to the outbound Ryan.
