Selig To Determine Epstein Compensation
(CBS) When Theo Epstein was officially announced as President of Baseball Operations for the Cubs, Commissioner Bud Selig gave both the Cubs and Red Sox a Nov. 1 deadline to decide compensation for the move.
That deadline is now here and, Epstein said at a news conference on Tuesday that he is fine with Selig determining the compensation. Epstein did say there is a possibility that Major League Baseball could extend that deadline.
The story was first reported on Tuesday morning in the Boston Globe.
"Both sides are comfortable with that outcome if it happens that way,'' new Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington told the Boston Globe.
Such an outcome would be unprecedented, but one can understand why it would be awkward for Epstein to determine how much he is worth.
The Red Sox want a top prospect for Epstein, while the Cubs think that is too much.
Now, it could be up Selig to decide.
