Security Guard Pleads Innocent To Sex With Waukegan Student

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (STMW) -- The Waukegan High School safety officer accused of having sex with a student faces a mandatory prison sentence if he is convicted, Judge Christopher Stride said Thursday.

Timothy Kinsey, 44, of Waukegan pleaded not guilty to two counts of criminal sexual assault at his arraignment in Lake County Circuit Court.

Kinsey faces four to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000 per count. He will also have to register as a sex offender if he is convicted, Stride said.

Kinsey is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student. Police learned about the alleged sex with a student during an investigation of domestic battery charges against Kinsey.

He is accused of having an altercation with his wife once she learned about his reported relationship with the female high school student, police said.

A Waukegan Community Unit School District 60 spokesman had said it was not believed other students were involved.

Kinsey was a safety officer/security guard for two years.

He is in custody at Lake County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond. He is due back in court Dec. 3. A trial date of Jan. 14 was scheduled.
