Second Man Charged In South Side Murder
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A second man has been charged for the August 2011 shooting death of a man in the Gresham neighborhood.
Jontiaz Brooks, 19, of the 8000 block of South Richmond Street, was charged with one-count of first-degree murder, police said Saturday.
On Saturday, Brooks was ordered held without bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff office website. He will next appear in Violence Court (Br. 66) on Monday.
Brooks and 19-year-old Tommy Wilson Johnson are accused in the fatal shooting 20-year-old Darius Jones on Aug. 14, 2011, authorities said.
Jones was standing on a porch in the 8100 block of South Winchester Avenue when somebody in a passing vehicle fired multiple shots about 11:05 a.m. that day, police said at the time.
Jones, of 8130 S. Winchester Ave., was pronounced dead a little more than an hour later at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Jones lived on the same block where the shooting occurred.
Johnson, 19, of Racine Wis., was charged earlier this month with first-degree murder, police said. He was ordered held on $2 million bond.
