Second Maine West Coach Fired By School Board Amid Hazing Scandal
(CBS) --District 207 School Board members on Thursday evening moved to fire a freshman boys soccer coach in connection with the Maine West hazing scandal.
The panel came out of executive session shortly before 10 p.m. and voted 6-1 to suspend Emilio Rodriguez and seek his dismissal. Board members said Rodriquez knew about sexually degrading hazing behavior at Main West and did nothing to prevent it or punish offenders.
He is a tenured teacher.
Rodriguez becomes the second Maine West coach to be fired since the scandal broke.
Earlier, the board voted to terminate Michael Divincenzo, the boys varsity soccer coach. He is challenging the dismissal.
The board also voted to hire a consulted to look into the issue of hazing at the school.
