Schuster: Thornton Calls MRI 'Over-The-Top Precautionary'
By David Schuster-
GLENDALE, Ariz. (CBS) Matt Thornton says not to worry.
A few days ago the veteran left-hander experienced a twinge of discomfort in his throwing elbow during a bullpen session and immediately was checked out by medical personnel. The training staff then ordered an MRI.
"The MRI was over-the-top precautionary," Thornton said. "The ligaments are fine and it's probably just tendinitis. It's just a matter of getting it under control and moving forward."
And there is virtually no worry on Thornton's part that he wont be ready to go when it counts.
"The only thing I'm worried about is April 1 and that's all I care about," he said. "I just need to get in a few games before that time and I'll be ready. My first spring game is scheduled for March 5th and I'm in line for that so there aren't any worries on my part."
Thornton had a stint on the disabled list back in 2010 due to inflammation in his throwing elbow, but said this bout is not nearly as serious and he's confident it should clear up shortly.
