Schuster: Special Night At The United Center

The words "Special Night" kept coming up and who could argue as the standing room only crowd had one thrill after another Saturday night.

Most importantly the Bulls defeated the Utah Jazz 118-100 to move into a tie with Boston for the top spot in the East. And if you missed the 1st quarter you missed another hilite reel from Derrick Rose who canned five of his six 3 point field goal attempts and finished with 17 of his 26 points on the night. The Bulls were incredibly hot from 3 in the first half tieing an NBA record with 13 threes and they went on to establish a new franchise high with 18 for the game. Luol Deng also had 26 points and the bench continued with it's fine play notching 41 points for the game.

Then there was the halftime ceremony honoring the Bulls first title team. Bill Cartwright and B.J. Armstron could not make it but just about everybody else did including Horace Grant, Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan. Jordan (of course) received the loudest cheers and he added to the ovations when he stated that the current Bulls as constituted should win multiple championships of their own. He also went on to say that Derrick Rose is the M.V.P. of this season and that the Bulls are the team to beat in the East.

If you're a basketball fan and specifically a Bulls one, Saturday was indeed a special night and I for one was glad to have been here.
