Schuster: Konerko Pondering Future

Paul Konerko is the last of the Mohicans, meaning he's the final member of the 2005 World Series championship team that is still playing for the White Sox. Konerko fluffed that off by saying, with time, any championship club would eventually dissolve and somebody has to be the last man standing.
Konerko enters this season not knowing what his baseball future holds.
He said one of three things can happen: He could retire at season's end, he could sign a new contract with the Sox or he could sign with another team after the season. The veteran first baseman says he won't lose any sleep pondering his future and will just let things work out on their own.
Konerko knows his playing days are dwindling down but doesn't get melancholy thinking about it. He says he has thought about what he'll do after his playing career but wouldn't reveal exactly what that would be. However, he indicated it would be something totally non-related to the game of baseball. The veteran first baseman has proven to be a very successful business person and has done very well in the real estate world.
But his non-baseball future will have to wait, at least for one year. In the meantime, his teammates are giving it to him pretty good about being the "old man" on the Sox. Tyler Flowers had more than just a few zingers and Adam Dunn pointed out the grey in Konerko's beard as evidence that the South Sider's Captain is getting a bit long in the tooth. All of this is just a sign of admiration for Konerko who is beloved by his team mates. And they're hoping, along with the fans, that Konerko remains on the South Side for years to come.
