Schuster: Jam Packed Houses Treated To Some Good Baseball

By David Schuster-

CHICAGO (CBS) They packed them in like sardines in a can at Wrigley over the weekend and the fans were treated to some pretty good baseball. When it was all said and done,  nearly 130,000 people passed through the turn styles and they got their money's worth.

They saw tight games, home runs and big time performances from a  host of players. They also saw a rare match up of 2 storied franchises. One which has won 27 world championships and the other that hasn't sniffed a title in over a century.

The Cub's fan base dominated the stands but the Yankees were also well represented as their fans must have either purchased tickets prior to the season or made the ticket brokers happy over the last week.

I've been coming to Wrigley for a long time and have seen countless games and series. I also go back to the days when this park was like a ghost town. When the Witness protection program could hide someone in the upper deck and no one would see that person for a month. Bad games and seasons galore with little to watch and less to cheer for.

So it was a pleasure even for a jaded reporter like myself to get into the spirit of a jammed ball park where the excitement in the stands actually matched that of on the field.

Good stuff indeed.
