Schuster: Back To The .500 Mark For The Cubs
By David Schuster--
A combination of good pitching and hitting allowed the Cubs to return to the .500 mark as they defeated the Diamondbacks 4-1. Randy Wells went the first 6 innings scattering 6 hits as he picked up where he left off in Spring Training.
Offensively, Alfonso Soriano drove in a pair of runs which included his 2nd home run on the still young season while Aramis Ramirez and Geovany Soto each notched a pair of hits. And for good measure, Soto threw out a pair of runners trying to steal 2nd base.
The one negative in the win was Carlos Pena suffering a sprained thumb on his glove hand when he took an errant throw from short stop Starlin Castro. Pena is listed as day to day.
And the victory was achieved in front of the smallest crowd since 2002 as the cold weather factored into only 26,292 showed up at Wrigley Field.
