Schools In Carpentersville Area Also Looking To Lengthen Day
CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. (CBS) -- The Chicago Public Schools are not the only school system looking at a longer school day.
As WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports, the District 300 Carpentersville Area School District in the far northwest suburbs is also proposing a longer day for students.

The Elgin Courier News says the District 300 plan would add another 20 minutes to the school day, and change the current four-block period system to a day of seven or eight periods depending on the grade.
The district says the change is helping meet requirements under the Common Core Standards adopted by the State of Illinois, and would align the semester to a new standardized test that Illinois will adopt for the 2014-2015 school year the Courier-News reported.
Students would be in school from 7:20 a.m. to 2:55 p.m., and teachers would go from three classes and an advisory period each day, to five or six classes, the newspaper reported.
A public forum on the plan is scheduled for next month.
