School Spotlight: Thornton Fractional North High School
CHICAGO (CBS)-- Meet the students and staff of Thornton Fractional North High School in Calumet City.
As Principal Mr. Brian Rucinski said, "It's a special place" that feels like "one big family."
School superintendent John Robinzine said the cosmetology program draws from all over the district.
"It's a school within a school," Robinzine. "It's a dual credit program and they have every opportunity as they enroll in this program, to graduate with an associate's degree."
Students aren't just learning about cutting and styling hair. Those enrolled in the cosmetology program learn about manicures, pedicures, and other personal treatments in the multi-billion dollar industry.
The school's programs extended to fellowship and support. The Dreamers Club is an organization built to facilitate relationships and support immigrant students.
The school's football team is putting in the extra work in the weight room. The space is described as a welcoming environment for students of all levels who want to work out and improve their physical fitness.
The Calumet City school has clubs and academic organizations, but the girls' soccer team is the one to beat. It's currently holding tryouts for the upcoming season.
Athletic teams at the school have students who give their all. The track and field team is no exception, showing the long hours put in to make a difference against their competitors.
