School, Highwood Police Warn Of Possible Abduction Attempt
HIGHWOOD, Ill. (STMW) -- Police in north suburban Highwood are warning the community of a possible abduction attempt after an eight-year-old boy was approached outside outside his school earlier this week, Pioneer Press is reporting.
According to police, a man approached the boy from the south side of Prairie Avenue, across the street from Oak Terrace Elementary at 240 Prairie Ave., about 3:25 p.m. Wednesday.
The man, who was on foot, asked the boy, "Do you want a ride home?" police said.
According to police, the man came within two feet of the boy, who became frightened, turned and ran west on Prairie away from the school. The third-grade student arrived safety at his home a short distance away.
Police believe the same man may have approached a student on April 22, but that report has not been substantiated.
He was described as a white male with "spiky" hair, a short goatee, hoop earring in his left ear and star tattoo on his left forearm.
At the time of the incident, he was wearing sunglasses, a blue T-shirt, dark blue jeans and a silver wristwatch, police said.
Highland Park police also are aware of the solicitation and have increased patrols around schools in North Shore School District 112.
