School Districts Stand To Lose More Money From State
ELGIN, Ill. (WBBM ) -- Illinois schools stand to lose more money from the state.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Debra Dale reports, throughout the school year, the state has delayed promised payments to school districts. Now it may just eliminate some of the promised funding.
Illinois Schools Supt. Christopher A. Koch says Gov. Pat Quinn is likely to to cancel the state's final quarterly transportation reimbursements to all school districts.
Elgin School District U-46 spokesman Tony Sanders says his district, the state's second largest, stands to lose about $1 million. The district's entire transportation budget for the school year is about $27 million dollars.

Illinois had already cut the amount of money it reimburses schools for transportation costs by 41 percent for the current school year and has discussed cutting another 10 percent from that amount for the coming year.
Koch says his office has been working with the governor's to "underscore the importance of these transportation funds to school districts and thereby avoid any such reduction."
