20 School Buses Vandalized In North Aurora
NORTH AURORA, Ill. (CBS)-- Twenty school buses were vandalized over the weekend in North Aurora.
According to police, the buses were vandalized at a district bus storage and maintenance facility, located at 220 Adler Drive, between 5:30 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Monday.
Police said a mechanic confirmed 20 buses were missing catalytic converters.
The buses were not in service Monday morning. The district superintendent said those parts are very expensive to replace. He said it'll cost more than $40,000 to fix them. And he said besides the money, the toughest part is telling families the school can't help get their kids gt to class.
"It wasn't like somebody made a bad decision and ran off the road," said Superintendent Jeff Craig. "Or we didn't pay our insurance or we didn't pay our gas bill. It was a negative piece that negatively impacted a lot of kids."
Police are looking at surveillance video to help identify a suspect.
