School Bus Backs Into Waukegan Home
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (STMW) -- The renters at a north suburban Waukegan home are probably wondering if there is a jinx of some sort.
Around 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, a school bus backed into their building at 841 Low Avenue, breaking a couple of windows and peeling some of the siding off the side of the house. Only the driver and an aide were inside the bus and they were not injured. No one inside the house was injured.
"This is the second time in just over a year that house was hit. Last year it was hit by an SUV," said Captain Gene Decker of the Waukegan Fire Department.
He said the bus rolled backward from Grand Avenue and Jackson Street about a block before hitting the house. The driver told police there was a mechanical failure, but the driver was still cited for improper school bus operation.
"Thank God there were no cars or pedestrians at the time," said Decker, "That was good."
