One Dead In School Bus Accident Near Kankakee

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was killed and several school children injured in a crash involving a car and a school bus near Kankakee.
The driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier struck the back of a Herscher High School bus while the bus had its lights illuminated and was loading students on Thursday morning.
The driver, Aaron Ballenger, 29, of Braceville, Ill., was killed on impact, and a small number of bus passengers were transported to local hospitals, Illinois State Police said.
None of the injuries was life-threatening.
The accident happened around 7:15 a.m. in the town of Limestone at Illinois Route 113 just west of Warner Bridge Road.
The exact number of injured passengers was not immediately known, but initial reports indicated that rescue crews were treating eight patients.
The car was pinned under the bus and the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Parents of injured passengers on school bus are being contacted by Herscher High school representatives.
