Santo Mementos Saved By Bar Owner, Not Cubs
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Turns out the Chicago Cubs weren't exactly telling the truth the other day when a spokesman told WBBM Newsradio that discarded Ron Santo memorabilia had been rescued by the Cubs.

Someone in the Cubs organization had thrown out giant Ron Santo posters and a massive Santo remembrance card signed by fans.
When Newsradio called the Cubs to ask about that, Cubs spokesman Julian Green said it was an accident and that the team had fished the stuff out of the dumpster.
But that turns out not to be true.
Green has admitted to the Tribune the Cubs never recovered the memorabilia.
That's because bar owner Beth Murphy, of "Murphy's Bleachers," spotted it and had one of her bartenders get it.
Besides the giant remembrance card, Murphy says the posters had Santo quotes like, "Sports saved me," and "I'm a Cubbie now and I'll always be a Cubbie."
Murphy is a big Ron Santo fan and says she's turning over the memorabilia to the Santo family, which is letting her keep one item.
She's keeping a sign that says: We'll miss you Ron.
She takes the Cubs at their word that throwing out the memorabilia was an accident.
Green tells Newsradio, the Cubs never recovered the memorabilia and only learned that they hadn't after talking to Newsradio.
