Sandusky On Eve Of Sentencing: I'm The Victim
(CBS) -- Disgraced former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky is heard denying child sex-abuse allegations in a recorded message that has surfaced online on the eve of his sentencing.
The Penn State College of Communications on Monday posted a nearly three-minute recording from Sandusky in which the convicted pedophile says a variety of individuals, including false accusers and the media, conspired against him.
"A young man who was dramatic a veteran accuser, and always sought attention, started everything. He was joined by a well-orchestrated effort of the media, investigators, the system, Penn State, psychologists, civil attorneys and other accusers. They won. I've wondered what they really won: Attention, financial gain, prestige," Sandusky says, adding it will "all be temporary."
Sandusky says he may have been portrayed as a monster, but "they can't take away my heart."
"In my heart, I know I did not do these alleged disgusting acts. My wife has been my only sex partner, and that was after marriage. Our love continues," Sandusky says in the recording.
The ComMedia website offers no context about how the recording was made or who provided it.
Sandusky was expected to speak before his trial judge Tuesday at his sentencing. The 68-year-old, once known as an advocate for neglected children, was convicted in June of sexually abusing several boys over 15 years. In some instances, Sandusky attacked the minors in Penn State athletic facilities.
The child-sex scandal, and allegations of a cover-up in the Penn State administration, brought careers to an end and tarnished the legacy of late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno.
