Sandberg Spotted In Chicago? So What?
(CBS) Two Cubs fans say they saw Ryne Sandberg on Michigan Avenue Monday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
So he must be meeting with the Cubs, right?
Actually, no. Not to burst the Tribune's bubble, but Sandberg still has a residence in Chicago and is spotted around the city frequently. His presence on Michigan Avenue Monday means nothing.
The report comes on the heels of another Tribune report earlier this month, which cited a different fan who spotted Theo Epstein in a Lincoln Park Starbucks. That report fueled speculation that Epstein was meeting with the Cubs, which of course he was.
Don't get too excited about Sandberg getting spotted in Chicago though.
"Not talking to him at all," Epstein said on 670 The Score Wednesday. "If he's in town, it has nothing to do with the Cubs. Mike Quade is the guy we're going to be talking to. I've talked to him on the phone and I'm going to talk to him face-to-face in the next week. I look forward to getting to know him better and deciding what direction we go."
