Salvation Army Helping Brighten Holidays For Needy Families
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Some needy Chicago families found reason for a little excitement Tuesday at a Salvation Army Center in the Little Village neighborhood.
WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports 10 needy families were given full-sized artificial Christmas trees.
The donations meant a great deal to those families, including 31-year-old Angeline Perry.
"My kids will love the tree," "I've got six kids, and they'll have a beautiful time decorating it today."
Carlos Moran, administrator of the Salvation Army center in Little Village, said it's tough picking only 10 families to help, when so many need it.
However, he said "helping one family, seeing a happy face makes the difference."
The 10 trees donated today were among a couple hundred being given to Chicago area families who otherwise wouldn't have had a tree for Christmas. The Salvation Army was also providing those families with a Christmas meal and gifts for the children.
