Sacred Heart Hospital Effectively Shuts Down
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Sacred Heart Hospital on the West Side has effectively closed down.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services - an arm of the federal government which monitors hospitals - confirms for Newsradio that Sacred Heart Hospital has "discharged and/or transferred all of their patients effective today."
A spokeswoman for CMS says the Illinois Department of Public Health "is monitoring because the license is still in place."
When we called Sacred Heart Hospital in the 3200 block of West Franklin, we were connected with personnel - and the person who answered said, "No comment" to questions about whether the hospital had shut its doors.
Hospital owner Edward Novak is facing charges of health care fraud.
An Illinois Department of Public Health spokeswoman says IDPH has been at the hospital to "monitor the shutdown and transfer of patients."
