RTA To Spend $435,000 For Customer Satisfaction Survey

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Regional Transportation Authority will spend $435,000 in scarce funds to find out how pleased riders are with the CTA, Metra and Pace.

As WBBM Newsradio's Bob Roberts explains, each agency has conducted its own customer surveys. RTA senior deputy executive director Grace Gallucci says that entire process was comparing apples with oranges.

"Some were phoned. Some were onboard surveys, some were different types of approaches – telephone surveys – just too many things that would not allow there to be any statistically significant findings to be part of it," Gallucci said.

The riders will be asked about fares, ontime performance, and how clean their stations, shelters, trains or buses are.

Pace bus has already taken its sample, and the Chicago Transit Authority and Metra will do so this fall.

Gallucci expects the survey to take place yearly.
