Roy Hibbert Paid Pacers Backups Cash To Keep Bobcats Under 80 points
(CBS) When you're working under a four-year, $58 million contract, you can afford to do these kinds of things.
During Tuesday's Pacers-Bobcats game, Indiana held a comfortable lead late in the fourth quarter. It was at that time Pacers head coach Frank Vogel elected to rest his starters.
As Roy Hibbert headed to the bench, he offered the reserves $100 each if they could keep the Bobcats under 80 points.
The Bobcats ultimately lost 103-76, and Hibbert quickly paid up.
Here's the story from the Indy Star:
'I'm a man of my word,' he assured them.
In a happy locker room following a 103-76 blowout, the highest-paid Pacer ($13.66 million this season) handed out large bills to three teammates, including one he couldn't name, Dominic McGuire, who is playing on a 10-day contract. Jeff Pendergraph refused his reward. Ben Hansbrough must wait until Hibbert finds an ATM.
'He's a rookie; he gets his last,' Hibbert said with playful defiance.
