Round Lake Teen Saves Neighbor From Fire
ROUND LAKE, Ill. (CBS) -- A Round Lake teenager saved Mothers Day for her neighbors, when she saved the lives of a woman and her toddler from their burning home Saturday night.
WBBM Newsradio 780's Michele Fiore reports 17-year-old Sadie Contreras, who attends Grant High school, was sitting on her couch around 11 p.m. Saturday when she saw the fire starting at the house across the street and ran over there and yelled and screamed.
"In the corner of my eye, I see this bright orange light coming from the window," she said.

When she looked out her window, she saw her neighbor's house was on fire, so she ran across the street with determination.
"I'm pounding on the side of the house. I'm running around frantic. I'm yelling, 'Someone help. There's a fire. Get out of the house!,'" she said.
When the door at 385 S. Litchfield Dr. finally opened, Sadie saw a mother holding her toddler, shaken at what might have been. The fire broke out in the bedroom of a 2-year-old boy, who fussed that night until his mother let her sleep in her room.
"She was crying, and she was holding her baby, and she had no clue, she was sleeping," Sadie said. "She was just so thankful that someone was there."
It was a mother's day gift, not only for the woman in the house, but also for Contreras' mother, Andrea.
"I could not have asked for a better Mothers Day gift than to have a child do that for someone else, so I'm very proud," Andrea said.
