Rothstein: Chris Collins Has 'The Sizzle Factor' For Northwestern
(CBS) As multiple reports Tuesday indicate Northwestern will hire Duke assistant Chris Collins as its next head coach, CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein joined 670 The Score's Adam Hoge to talk about the potential hire.
"Chris Collins has the sizzle factor right now that the Northwestern brass really is starting to be intrigued with," Rothstein told Hoge. "I know he was neck-and-neck with Bucknell's Dave Paulsen for a great deal over the last 72 hours, but I think Dave Paulsen comes from the same cloth as a Bill Carmody. And I don't mean that in any way in a negative light, it's just that we've seen Northwestern go the route of a proven coach in a league of high academic standards, and that's why I think this time, if they hire Chris Collins, it will add a little bit more sizzle, a little more flare to a program that has yet to be in the NCAA Tournament."
Rothstein also questioned why La Salle coach John Giannini wasn't taken more seriously and discussed what Collins has to do to be successful at Northwestern, including securing the re-commitment of 6-foot-3 point guard Jaren Sina, who is now looking at other schools after signing his letter of intent in the fall.
