Rosenthal: Should The White Sox Trade Chris Sale?
(CBS) At 35-52 and 13 games out of first place, the White Sox are going nowhere.
Multiple reports have indicated the team will be massive sellers as the July 31 trade deadline approaches, with everyone but Chris Sale and Paul Konerko available.
But in a column posted to FOXSports.com, 670 The Score contributor Ken Rosenthal suggests the White Sox should consider moving Sale, if the price is right.
"If I'm the White Sox, I'm making left-hander Chris Sale available," Rosenthal writes. "The time is right; the market for starting pitching stinks."
Rosenthal points out Matt Garza's injury history, Yovani Gallardo's towering ERA and Bud Norris' lack of experience before stating: "Some smart team is going to exploit the shortfall by putting a top-of-the-rotation starter in play. The White Sox should be that team."
Before the start of the season, Sale, 24, signed a club-friendly five-year, $32.5 million contract that includes club options of $12.5 million for 2018 and a $13.5 million for 2019.
Sale is 5-8 with a 2.78 ERA in 16 starts this season.
Though Rosenthal cites one general manager who said White Sox general manager Rick Hahn hasn't mentioned the possibility of trading Sale, Rosenthal believes for the right price, the White Sox would be wise to do so.
