Boy, 12, Suffers Graze Wound When Bullet Comes Through Wall Of Home In Roseland
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 12-year-old boy was shot and injured by a stray bullet inside a home Thursday, just as his family sat down for Thanksgiving dinner.
As CBS 2's Marissa Parra reported the boy was in good condition at the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital Thursday night.
The incident happened around 3:45 p.m. in the 100 block of West 114th Street, police said. Investigators were still combing through the area when we arrived.
The boy was inside a home minding his own business when he suffered a graze wound to his neck upon hearing shots in the area, police said.
The bullet traveled through the wall before striking the boy, police said.
"He was playing a video game when shots came out, and family realized that when he came into the dining room area, that he was bleeding," said community activist Andrew Holmes.
It is believed that the shooters were firing from the 11300 block of South Perry Avenue around the corner, where spent shell casings were found, police said.
Police do not believe the boy was the target of the shooting.
The boy's distraught family did not want to talk on camera Thursday night.
Area South detectives were investigating.
