Rose Among The New Era Of Point Guards
Derrick Rose has established himself as one of the premier point guards in the NBA. He's capable of not only creating opportunities for his teammates, but also creating for himself. And that ability is something the elite PGs in the league have, and is a new trend in the NBA.
"I'm still in favor of the point guard that looks to pass first," former Bulls' player and current analyst, Kendall Gill said on the Danny Mac Show. "I think Derrick Rose is in that mold. Chris Paul is in that mold, so is Deron Williams. The only thing is those guys can score, and they can score very well. I don't know whether it's a trend to try and find those types of guys. But, it's just the era we're in."

So far this season, Rose has surpassed what many had expected from him, in terms of scoring. But the 'new era' type of point guard that Gill sees Rose as, was very evident against the Thunder on Monday night.
"I think you saw Derrick Rose show, [Monday] night, how versatile he can be," Gill says. "The guy can go out and score 30 [points] one night, or he can be a facilitator like he was [against the Thunder]."
On the topic of versatility, the Bulls and Rose become much more versatile when Carlos Boozer returned from injury.
"Carlos Boozer brings a luxury to this team. Derrick Rose didn't have to wear himself out [against the Thunder], because Carlos Boozer was carrying the load and scoring, so was Luol Deng. And I think that's going to be one of the things that's going to be a plus for the Bulls. You get a chance to not wear your superstar out. And then later down in the season [Rose] is going to be fresh and he can take over games at the end."
