Roosevelt University Opens New 32-Story Vertical Campus
CHICAGO (WBBM) - Roosevelt University is celebrating the opening of its new 32-story, 123-million-dollar vertical campus Saturday with a ribbon-cutting and open house.
The name is simple, the Wabash Building, but the building is anything but simple. Hailed by architecture critics as a welcome addition to the wall of historic buildings on South Michigan Avenue, the address of the new Roosevelt University vertical campus is 425 S. Wabash. It is 32 stories of blue and green glass with a zig-zagging profile.
"People ask me why the building is shaped like it is. I simply reply, it is shaped that way, so you'll ask me why it is shaped that way," said Roosevelt Professor Bill Wisecott.
He was joined by Congressman Bobby Rush.
"And as I travel Lake Shore Drive, and I look up and see that Roosevelt University is a part of the skyline of the city, it makes me even more proud to know that beneath that tall sign in the sky, there is a true foundation," said Rush.
Rush seemed almost choked up saying he loves Roosevelt University.
"Because Roosevelt first loved me," Rush said.
