Romeoville Coach Cleared Of Drunk Driving Charges
YORKVILLE (STMW) -- Romeoville teacher and football coach Jeff Kuna has been cleared on charges of drunken driving.
Kuna, 38, of Plainfield, was charged with drunken driving after a traffic stop at 3:12 a.m. Feb. 20 near Route 126 and Schlapp Road. Kuna was driving 68 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone, police said. On Friday afternoon, Kuna was found not guilty of drunken driving after a brief trial in Kendall county.
He was found guilty of speeding and ordered to pay a $200 fine, Kendall County prosecutors said.
Kuna is Romeoville High School's head football coach. He taught driver's education and physical education at the school. Since the charges, Kuna had reportedly been moved so he is no longer teaching driver's ed.
The district was waiting for the outcome of the court case to make a decision on Kuna's employment. As a third-year teacher, Kuna does not have tenure. Prior to 2008, he was assistant football coach and defensive coordinator at Plainfield Central High School.
No one from the district could be reached for comment Friday evening. Kuna's attorney did not return calls for comment.
