Rolling Meadows Seeking Donations To Pay For July 4th Parade
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (CBS) -- Northwest suburban Rolling Meadows is trying to put together a 4th of July parade -- on the cheap.
Its city council voted in November to eliminate the $17,000 line item for the parade. It set up a community events foundation to seek donors, but that's barely off the ground.
Now, Mayor Tom Rooney is appealing in the city newsletter for helping hands.
"Some folks have expressed an interest in helping out, but no one has yet come forward to take the lead," he wrote in his bimonthly column.
As a result, Rooney said he will coordinate, and said he will organize a kazoo band -- "just a group of people willing to provide a little fun."
How big it gets beyond that depends on who contributes, where, and how much.
While he promises, "There will be a 'fund-less' parade Wednesday, July 4," he said how good the parade is will depend on who else comes forward. He is looking for everything from marchers to volunteer crossing guards and crowd control workers.
