Robert Feder Joins Time Out Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Local television and radio critic Robert Feder is moving his operation to Time Out Chicago, and will begin writing for the magazine's website in January.
Feder, who spent 28 years with the Chicago Sun-Times, recently left his latest post at WBEZ-Chicago Public Media's Vocalo site.
Beginning Jan. 3, Feder will write a daily blog on timeoutchicago.com, the magazine announced.
"Rob brings to the table an incomparable ability to land important scoops. He's an incisive, insightful, must-read journalist who's coming off arguably the best year of his career," Time Out Chicago president and editor-in-chief Frank Sennett said in an announcement on the magazine's website. "This is the biggest free-agent columnist signing in Chicago since (Mike) Royko jumped to the Trib."
Feder started at the Sun-Times in 1980, first working as a legman to columnist Gary Deeb in 1980, and taking over the beat when Deeb left the paper.
In 2008, Feder took a buyout package, when employees with greater than 25 years' seniority were given the opportunity to step down with a year's pay and benefits. He joined Chicago Public Media in November 2009, but left last month, mentioning no reason for doing so other than mentioning "the recent redesign of the Vocalo blogs and their move to a new site at wbez.org" signified it was time to go.
Feder is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. He is also known for starting the first and only fan club for CBS News anchorman Walter Cronkite at the age of 14.
